Father of Modern Printing - Johannes Gutenberg

This title is the title that I would actually give to him. Without him, printing would still be a complicated and time consuming process. More importantly, we might not be as advance as what today looks like.

Johannes Gutenberg

Johannes Gutenberg

Born some time during 1390-1400 in the German city of Mainz, Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg's life is mostly unknown to historians. There's only a handful of important documentation that recorded his existence.

He invented a sort of metal alloy for printing. This changed the printing industry. Before this, people used block printing, where people prepare a piece of metal or wood and using that, printed out the whole page. The making of this type of block is very time consuming. With Gutenberg's new invention, which is printing with movable type, where you would just need to rearrange the letters instead of making a whole block, saves tons and tons of time. This also made knowledge able to be widely spread to the public since printing of books is so fast.

Despite that, Gutenberg was having trouble of claiming this invention as his own. He had legal problem and lost his machines to his panther, Johann Fust. He died in the year 1468. But with his invention, books and other printed materials were able to be printed out for the public fast and easily. That enables and encourages people to learn to read, and also learn all the knowledge that the printed media provides.

Without him, our ancestors won't be as knowledgeable as they are able to, and they won't advance at the pace they were during that time. Without him, today won't be the modern day that we know of.
