Video art and commercials

Video art has its name from video tape. As you probably can tell, video art is about video and art. But it is more than that. Video art can be in a form of, well, video, or it also can be in a series of images. Video art can also appear as an installation. The one key difference between video art and theatrical cinema, along with other films, is that video art might not have any dialogue, narrative, plot, actors and many others conventions that defines what theatrical cinema is.

One example of a variant of video art, installation: Electronic Superhighway by Nam June Paik

In the other spectrum, commercials' purpose is to allow one or multiple companies' products or services being promoted as the main highlight of the video. With commercials, the viewers are exposed to a certain brand. Advertisements affects a brand's sells and reputation. In a good way or a bad way? It really depends on the video itself.

These two items are really different entities. Video art is an art form by artists who want to express themselves and challenge themselves to take video technologies to their maximum potential. Meanwhile, businesses use commercials to market their products and/or services.
